General

What is a blog?
To paraphrase from Wikipedia, a blog is a website with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as photos or video. Each contributor, writes entries or “posts” to the blog. Posts are usually displayed in reverse chronological order – that is, the newest posts appear first, then the previous one, and so on.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. The Chaminade ‘88 Reunion Blog will be a little of both – the Reunion committee will post updates on the upcoming events while we expect that other alums will post info about themselves, memories or other topics of interest to the group.

Importantly, blogs also offer the ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format. For this reason, blogs are often described as a conversation with and within a particular community — in our case, Chaminade Class of ‘88 alumni.

Getting Started

How do I get started and blog on this site?

Any Class of ‘88 alum can blog here. However, we need to get you set up with a WordPress account. Then we simply check a box in the blog program and you’re good to go! (The whole process is hassle-free and only takes a minute). Contact Dan Wool and he’ll walk you through it.

Can I just jump on and blog?
You can blog whatever you want, whenever you want — just as long as you get setup in the system. It’s really easy and takes seconds. We send you an email from the blog software, you reply and you’re up and running! Email Dan Wool and he’ll help you.

Once I get set-up, is it hard?
No, blogging is simple. If you can type an email and click send, you can blog.

On the Class of ’87 Reunion Blog, everyone seems to have posted whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. How come we can’t do that?
That’s a bit of a misconception. Anyone can post whatever, whenever on the Chaminade ’88 Reunion Blog - just like the Class of ‘87 Reunion blog. We’re set-up the exact same way as the ’87 blog, just with a different provider.

In order to blog, you must have a WordPress account and get added to the contributor list. (This takes less than a minute). Contact Dan Wool and he’ll walk you through it.

Blogging

If I choose to blog, what should I post?
First, it might be a good idea to let everyone know what you’ve been up to these many years – or something similar to help reestablish the connection to you. After we all get reacquainted, post whatever you like. Start any conversations you believe the audience wants to hear – these could range from wondering aloud if anyone’s seen one of our classmates recently to providing a window into your family life, recent travels, achievements, etc.

Is there a limit to how often I can post?
Nope — just as long as your try to keep it relevant and interesting.

Commenting

How do I comment on an existing post?
On each post, there are links marked “Comments” at the top and bottom. Simply click that link, scroll to the bottom of the post and fill in the name and email fields (or the optional website field) and begin typing in the box. Click “Submit” and you’re done.

I submitted my comment and don’t see it – what happened?
If it’s your first comment, it will go into what’s called “moderation” before it appears on the site. That simply means that the blog editors must approve the comment before it goes live to the site. We get an email from the blog software, so it happens quickly. The reason for moderation is a good one — blog comments tend to get a lot of spam from advertisers. This process enables us to keep spam off the blog and confirm you’re “one of us”.

After that first approval, anytime you comment, it will automatically come up on the blog post.
