Class gift

Below is text of a letter sent this week from Juan Alva, who is chairing our class gift/fundraising effort. The letter will be filed in the Official Info section.

July 14, 2008

Dear Class of ‘88,

We’re only 3 months away from our 20 year reunion. I’m sure that we are all looking forward to seeing old friends and renewing acquaintances on October 17th and 18th. Hopefully, we will have a great turnout.

One of the important aspects of our reunion is our class gift. I am chairing the fundraising effort which has set a goal of raising $8,800. I hope that even if you cannot attend, you will be generous and contribute to our class gift. The individual goal is for each person to contribute $88, in honor of our Class of ‘88. Donations of any amount are welcome and, most importantly, I’d like to get 100% participation from our class. If we can achieve that, then we will far exceed our goal.

I am happy to announce that we are off to a fast start. We have already raised over $1,400 from 10 donors who have stepped forward as leaders of our fundraising campaign. To add incentive to our fundraising efforts, I want to issue a challenge to our class: if we meet our fundraising goal of $8,800, I will personally donate $1,200 to round our gift off to $10,000.

The goal of our fundraising is to benefit the current and future students at Chaminade. As alumni, we should take great pride in our school and see that we continue to provide for its future. Our class was always a great class in terms of school leadership, academics and athletics. Now we have the opportunity to continue our class tradition and become one of the best alumni classes.

I hope that you will join me and your fellow classmates in this effort. You can donate online at www.chaminade.org or by mailing a check. If you choose to donate by check, please make it out to Chaminade College Preparatory and in the memo, please write “Class of ’88 Gift”. Reunion events lineup

Here’s some scoop for our 20 Year Reunion weekend - we’ll provide more details as we get them and send a formal mailing out at the end of the summer:

Friday, October 17th
We’re invited to attend the Chaminade football game. The Eagles will take on Crespi at Chaminade High School at 7:30pm. During halftime we’ll be introduced and escorted down to the field.

Come join us afterwards at The Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas for a casual gathering.

Saturday, October 18th
During the day, we’ll have some campus tours of Chaminade scheduled — a lot has changed since we parked in the “Dust Bowl” and traversed the muddy football field to get to the FA building. We’re also trying to put together a small sports event so that we can get together and relive our youth. This will all depend on timing and the use of Chaminade’s facilities. Stay tuned for details.

Saturday evening we’ll be meeting at Maggiano’s in Woodland Hills for dinner, dancing, and drinks (open bar) around 5:30pm. There will be an after-party scheduled from 11pm – 2am at a very fun pool hall called The Rack. Maggiano’s and The Rack are both within walking distance from the Warner Center Marriott, which is our host hotel. If you plan on staying there, we encourage you to book a room early. Also, if you have any old Chaminade memorabilia we can display at the event, please email Anna Tulino.

Sunday will be a day to recover! There are no scheduled events for this day.
